Guru Nanak Nagar Keertan (Parade) Leicester 2012

In honour of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Jee, the first master of the Sikhs coming to this world, the Sikh community of Leicester hold an annual Nagar Keertan (Parade), which starts of at Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Gurdwara (East Park Road) and ends at Guru Nanak Gurdwara (St Nicholas Circle).  Even with the threat of rain looming, this year close to 10,000 individuals attended the parade.

The LSA Team were also present on the day and we had a prominent stall in the grounds of GNG Gurdwara, where we held a members drive and collected signatures for the "Sikhs For Justice" campaign to recognise Delhi 1984 as a Genocide by the United Nations (http://www.1984yesitsgenocide.org/join-the-fight).

'International Human Rights Day', Kesri Lehar to Submit 'Anti Death Penalty' 118,000 Signature Petition

YouTube: UK MPs speak out in droves Againt Death Penalty

On December 10th, 'International Human Rights Day', a 6 person delegation containing representatives from Amnesty International, Liberation, Human Rights Internet, Dalit (oppressed Indian Caste), Christian & Sikh Groups will be submitting the 'Kesri Lehar' (Wave of Justice) petition containing 118,000 signatures to the PMs office.  The petition urges India to abolish the death penalty and improve its atrocious human rights and custodial torture record.

Thereafter, all who support the Kesri Lehar ideal, shall hold their first political gathering. Representatives from all aforementioned groups, MPs who have supported the petition, members of the House of Lords will address this meeting - as well as prominent local Sikh community leaders.
In addition to this, EDM 296 ( http://www.parliament.uk/edm/2012-13/296 ), which urges the UK Government to press the Indian government to ratify the Rome Statute, is also picking up momentum.  There are now 65 MP signatories, 15 from November alone.

It is important that we all attend this historic event.

Sikh Community at 2012 "Together" event in Beauchamp College

The Leicester Sikh Alliance along with our partners from Oadby Punjabi School (OPS), which is based in Guru Harkrishan Gurdwara (Oadby), designed and set up Sikh stalls which were utilsed at the Together Event in Beauchamp College.  It was an amazing day. All community and charity stalls were awesome and volunteers so friendly.

The local Bishop approached the Sikh stall and said "You're kids were the highlight from the whole event for me...I learnt so much from them. Each of them had something new and interesting to say about Sikhism...please say thank you to them from me"
